To make sure I understand you correctly, for this mail you're reading right 
now, the index would only contain what I wrote, not what you wrote, right?

If my understanding above is right, the proposed algorithm will break 
horribly when one gets added later to an ongoing conversation. Suppose A 
and B exchanged a couple of mails, with that corporate habit of top-posting 
and including everything in quotes. After a couple of rountrips, C is added 
to actually do all the work (again, in the best corporate tradition). All 
the data C needs to read "is there", available in the quoted parts, yet the 
search won't be able to find it. That's wrong.
