Yes, which is why I tried to clarify that "has a cache" does not imply "is 
only a cache".
Obviously not finding the right words :)

Right. I tried to make it clear that the cache is part of the functionality of 
Akonadi, not its only one. Thus "clearing the cache" is not equivalent to 
"removing all Akonadi files".
While one direction is true, i.e. "removing all files" will result in 
"clearing the cache", it is not true the other way around.

As I tried to explain with file system equivalents, e.g. formatting the disk 
will clear /tmp, but clearing /tmp will not inadvertetly remove all other 
information.
