Hello Denny,

Then you thought wrong, and you obviously have not been tracking this mailing-
list nor kde-pim before now. Prior to 4.7 kde-pim was as stable as I need a
pim to be, and you can also cross-check that it was stuck on version 4.4 for
one and a half year. This was to ensure that people like you had a nice
experience. However, the change to the Akonadi framework needed to be done at
some point, and it was bound to be painful regardless. It was done with
version 4.7, and like all larger plumbing transitions in the free software
world it was bound to cause trouble.

As a user not interested in helping out, you have a number of options. First
up is staying away from bleeding edge distributions or software (since you are
already on 4.8 I think we can conclude that you have potential for improvement
there). Distributions typically make that kind of decision for you. If you go
with Fedora or Arch, you are basically choosing to participate in the testing
and/or development of free software. All conservative distributions have
sheltered users from the Akonadi transition in kde-pim as far as I have seen.

For kde-pim there is even a third option. You can opt for the enterprise
version. You can even get a support agreement for it, entitling you to express
your dismay should show-stopper bugs still be a problem. I believe they may
even be willing to provide a stable version for your distribution of choice,
so you don't have to worry about porting, compiling nor updating yourself. The
people behind the enterprise version have my warmest recommendations.

With best wishes for a free future,
Del
