I try very hard not to come to the same conclusion. There's a huge amount of
work gone into it over the years and I don't want to denigrate that; but
against that is the simple fact observed here that it seems very fragile for
something so foundational to the architecture.

I'll try it again in a year or so; until then, I'm using replacement PIM programs.

4.9.2, according to Kontact. It's a brand new installation of 64-bit Kubuntu
12.10 on to new hard drives.
