I've looked at this issue now too and come up with the attached patch.

It doesn't require maintaining a container of all descendant 
collections of monitored collections, but uses a CollectionCache with 
prefetching before trying to filter messages in the usual way.

I haven't had time to test it much yet, but thought I'd post it in 
case you were working on the same thing.
