As I said on kde-devel: The cause are the ContactSearchJobs in the special 
date summary, which are not executed in an async way and therefore block.
In combination with the bug that the search handler on the Akonadi server 
apparently under some combination doesn't return, this makes Kontact hang. See 
also https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219687.

Quoting my mail from kde-devel:
"If anybody wants to help: Making the search jobs for the contacts async in 
this case would solve the problem."
