I've had a bug report for KAlarm
(https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=197496) which involves a KMail error
message which I don't understand. Can anybody cast any light on what it
means, or what would cause it?
It happens when KAlarm attempts to send an email message via KMail (via
D-Bus). KMail displays the following error message:
Error sending email:
The server did not accept the sender address "John Smith <jn.sm at epa.gov>".
The server responded: "<John Smith <jn.sm at epa.gov>>: "@" or "." expected
after "Carey""
I've taken care to type the punctuation exactly as it appears in the error
message. I've abbreviated the email address for simplicity.
KMail transmits via SMTP. The reporter checked the SMTP server logs, but
there was no SMTP activity recorded during the period when the email was
sent. There was no delivery failure report either. So it's not clear
whether KMail is processing the address and generating the error
internally, or not.
The sender email address is set up as a KMail identity, and works when
used within KMail.
