Distribution lists are not broken, but the migrating path from the old to the
new version is missing...
Since the new version was introduced with the enterprise branch, do the KDAB
people provide such a path for their customers?

A simple perl script in autostart folder which parses the file
  $HOME/.kde/share/apps/kabc/distlists
and create special vCards from it that are appended to
  $HOME/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf
should do the trick.
