Or checking argv[0] like kabcclient does when being called as kabc2mutt

Actually I wanted to spend some time on a common library for KDE PIM console 
applications so we don't have to do input parsing and output formatting 
multiple times, but I probably won't have time for this until after 4.1

I'll try to do a writeup of my ideas though.
