I see... actually you are right. I only discovered this while testing OpenSync 
with kdepim. What do you think about enhance this backup feature:
1. Check if contact file is empty then ...
2. Check for backups and if there are any present ..
3. Ask the user if because should be restored.
4. Restore the backup(s) .. if this is accepted by user.
