I agree with you completely, but the addressbook deleted by accident is far worse (loosing data vs. getting back deleted data) and not 'more rare' then your use case probably. 

I'm not the addressbook maintainer, so I don't decide about this issue. I only wrote the restore part as mentioned in the bugreport, for reference: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=118924
