Some more comments:

You can use 'akonadictl start' to start the server and 'akonadictl stop'
to shutdown it cleanly (equal to call org.kde.Akonadi.Control/ControlManager::shutdown())

Furthermore you can use 'akonadictl status' to see whether all important
processes are running.

This application should be extended, to report more status informations
(e.g. running agents/resources, currently connected clients etc.)
