Volker Krause: > You missed Bruno Virlet in that list who will work on
KDE PIM as well ("Generic models/views for all Akonadi-based
applications") ;-)

Oops! Somewhat sleep-deprived when I sent that. I remember thinking "I
bet I missed somebody out. I hope I didn't." :-) Snaps & kudos to Bruno
Virlet on his proposal being accepted.

Kelly Miller: > Well I didn't get picked, but oh well. Got anything
that needs doing?

I echo Volker Krause's point: limited project slots mean some otherwise
desirable proposals might have to miss out.

It's a platitude Kelly sure, but it is true 'there's always next year'.
Just today I read an interesting tips-giving article
[http://tinyurl.com/2uod96] about GSoC, written by a now twice
participant. Helping out with open-source development in the meantime
will further hone your skills, and I imagine raise your profile in the
KDE / wider opensource community. :o)

Since you ask Kelly, I'm always grateful and appreciative of
contributions to KLuJe; I recently imported it into 'playground' [1].
By nature it is a smaller app than other PIM-related software like
KMail or KOrganizer, so it might appeal to you as a smaller peice of
software to work on. The todo file in its repository has a bunch of
ideas as well as the KDE 4 porting venture.

More altruistically, or aside from projects of which I'm a maintainer
;-), there's software like Kontact, KMail, and the KOrganizer
framework. Undoubtedly many more users use these programs and they are
already in the main KDE SVN trunk. The PIM team working on them welcome
enthusiastic contributors [2] with open arms.

Alternatively, Volker commented earlier in this thread how Java/C#
bindings are desirable for Akonadi. Discussing with him your working on
that is another possibility.

Last, the KMail Hacking weekend coming up on 21-22 April offers a
parallel (!) or alternative opportunity for involvement. I notice you
expressed an interest in that on one of the threads; it's a valuable
thing to take part in.

Kind regards,

Richard.
