The index approach is broken for distributed scenarios. It would help a lot, 
if KMail would write such data into mail headers at latest when the message s 
is modified (e.g. moved). This would slow down KMail in some areas, but it 
would make the mail data more consistent.

Correct. See above for a partial solution. For IMAP, there it would be best to 
store such data on the server right in the moment when the messages gets 
changed e.g. tagged.
