Just asked Timo about this issue and the NetworkManager backend for each 
distribution has to implement the necessary functions to list all dialup 
connections. I guess the ubuntu backend simply does not implement that.

Maybe you should contact ubuntu's networkmanager maintainer regarding this 
issue.
