How dead is Phonon?

As far as I can say, there has been ongoing development including qml APIs in 
recent times.

I still plan to use Phonon on desktop for my application (Elisa music player). 
Qt Multimedia has shortcomings like the need for extra codec when deployed on 
Windows.
