Sorry, I should have been more clear.  I didn't mean copyright
license, I meant patent license.  ffmpeg contains patent-encumbered
formats which it is not licensed by the patent holders to implement
support for.  For this reason, many distros refuse to ship it.
gstreamer makes this easier for distros by allowing distros to ship
the non-patent encumbered parts while users can install the
patent-encumbered parts separately.  This is not possible with ffmpeg.
