I was referring to Amarok 2.3.1.  The question was:

"Is Amarok 2.3.1 supposed to work with the VLC backend?"

And the answer was:

"Whenever we actually release it [Amarok 2.3.1]; yes."

How can you "not use it"?  It's not something you use.  There's no 
button for it.  If you have two tracks that are designed to not have a 
gap between them (from a live concert for example, or from a "live mix" 
album), then they should not have a gap.  That's not something you 
"enable" or "use."  It just is or isn't.

Anyway, I suppose your answer to the original question is "I don't know."
