Can't play mp3's in noatun or juk

Even though I can play them in kaffeine and other media players.  I can play ogg files in juk and noatun.  I think both juk and noatun use aRts, but others use xine.  So how can I make aRts play mp3s or failing that, make juk use gstreamer or whatever.  I'm using 3.5.6 on feisty.
