Hm... That should be OK. Are those WAV files with a very low samplerate?
That may explain part of it.

If you want, file a bug in http://bugzilla.gnome.org/ (yeah, sorry, we
track our bugs there...) so we can discuss the issue there onwards, it
may be a bit out-of-scope for this mailinglist. If it's specific WAV
files having extremely long delays, attach one such file there and I'll
look at it.
