I don't think it'd fit in the KDE release. Our goal is to have one system
that all apps share, so things will work and act the same. Right now that
system we use is aRts.
There is now consideration of what system to use in KDE 4, but nobody has
proposed mplayer for that (Nor did anyone volunteer to work on mplayer for
the video system in KDE 3.1). So it doesn't seem likely that mplayer
will be the future choice, either.
Now, if you wanted to write one or more playobjects based on mplayer,
that'd be different. Tying the stuff to one GUI is unfortunate, as it
prevents the standard players and services from making use of it.
