It's even stranger now: I put my laptop into suspend over night.
And today I can not reproduce this anymore ...

But a general question (I'm not a sound guru):

I thought, the sampling rate is needed for sound recording only (e.g. from a 
microphone), and getting data from the CD and storing it on my disk is just 
copying binary data (and probably some conversion) ?

OTOH, copying data with konqueror (audiocd:/) to my disk produces a slightly 
different file size than when simply getting this data with cdparanoia - why 
this ?
