Yes, 0.9.14 broke compatibility.  You need 0.9.13.  When this work was 
done, 0.9.13 was the last released version.  Because Xine had no published 
schedules we were aware of, we decided to stick with that version for KDE 
3.1.

I don't expect to see support for 0.9.14 being done for KDE 3.1.  As for 
the future, the current Xine page makes me expect KDE 3.2 to require Xine 
1.something.
