If you pick a command line player instead of something like xmms, you'll play
your sound without popping up any annoying guis, which I assume is what you
want.
Chances are, you have the 'play' command in your distro, which plays any .wav
file, so just type :
play /stuff/garbage.wav
in the commandline box and you'll get the desired effect.
