Name one Starfleet captain who didn't break the Prime Directive (maybe the new 
guy, but Enterprise is still not airing in this uncivilised country..). They 
all do and we love 'em for it. ;-)

But seriously, we can add this in a compliant way. Unopened dirs are unknown 
and thus not confirmed to be empty, so they won't be hidden until it is 
confirmed that they are. Voila. You'll need to do the check upon opening for 
hiding files at the same time anyway, so if you discover there are no files 
at all at that point.. the dir is empty. :-)
