I tried to reproduce this. I started KMail yesterday and waited. For the first 
few hours everything went smooth. I charged my N900 yesterday and disconnected 
it (fully charged) from the power adapter around 23:00. At this time the 
device was working normal.

This morning around 7:00 I tried to use it again. It reconnected to my IRC 
account around this time. I know because it makes a certain sound when doing 
this. This sound was heavily disorted with gaps of like one seconds in 
between. I could get the screen on by flipping the keyboard out, but the 
screensaver button did not seem to work. It took me like 20 minutes to get to 
the application switch view. Using the keyboard shortcut didn't help. I 
ultimatively managed to do this by flipping the lens open and waiting for some 
minutes.

When I came back I was in the app switch view and the device was working 
normally again. dmesg shows this:
