[Kde-mobile-users] Maemo/N900: KMail Touch very slow and unresponsive

Hi,

first of all I would like to thank the Kontact Touch developers for the
effort they put into porting KMail/Kontact to mobile devices.

I just gave KMail Touch a try (the experimental version) and I am very
impressed by the UI and general look and feel. However I am suffering from
severe performance problems. This is my setup:

1. N900 with latest software updates
2. Kontact Touch from experimental repositories
3. One single GMail IMAP account configured in KMail (I have about 1,6GB of
messages in my INBOX and 5 IMAP folders).

I understand that initial fetching of emails might take a long time. I let
the device sit there for a few hours in order to fetch the mails from the
server. What seems strange is that whenever I launch KMail again it takes
forever to launch and fetch new mails (20 minutes), even after the initial
fetching is done.

akonadi and akonadi_imap_resource both seem to consume *a lot* of CPU -
overclocking to 800MHz did not make a difference. When launching KMail the
entire OS becomes unresponsive and basically unusable. This is every time I
launch KMail. Rebooting the N900 makes things worse - launching KMail after
a reboot feels like it does initial fetching again.

The other thing is that it also takes forever to actually open an IMAP
folder. For me it takes ~5 minutes per folder. Is this expected?

KMail on my desktop does not have these issues (same IMAP account). The
default N900 email client is also pretty fast when fetching emails from
GMail.

Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Is this normal behaviour of the
experimental version? Is this going to change?

Thanks,
Frederik
