I think you are compounding problems.  El Capitan is a freshly released
version of OS X and MacPorts is having trouble with it.  See discussion
on macports-users at lists.macosforge.org, esp. the "Darwin Version" thread,
which has lengthy discussion from several MacPorts developers.

Qt4-mac has been hit.  Also DYLD_ variables are deliberately made
invisible by a new security measure in El Capitan...

Wait for the dust to settle? … ;-)
