BTW, restoring Library/Preferences/KDE/share from a TM backup I did realise that we have a delicate and potentially dangerous situation there. The whole Preferences/KDE directory will typically sit on a case-insensitive fs. TImeMachine's restore function (just a Finder copy?) complained about name aliasing, and left me with a restored folder that had over 1000 files less  (still plenty at 5400+ ;)) than the one I was replacing. When I restored it to a case-sensitive partition, there was a difference of only a couple of dozen files.
