just tried with the already installed gcc 4.7 using

  configure.compiler  macports-gcc-4.7

and it worked! :)

Thanks for the hint.

Some logic on how to use an existing or to be installed macports-gcc-4.* compiler
should be inserted into the portfile for SL, I suppose...
