Heh, heh.  I think that thread was the first one I ever posted to on
macports-users … :-)

My view was (and still is) that KDE apps are slow in starting for the
first time because they may be rendering and caching a lot of graphics
and then Apple OS X runs out of patience with them and marks them as
"not responding".  I have certainly not had any further problems (since
July 2011) with KDE applications having bouncing icons and not starting.

At the time (July 2011), the KSharedDataCache class in kdelibs was
not working in Apple OS X (KDE 4.8.3) and that might have made the
problem worse.  I reported a bug on that class in October 2012 [1].

The cache bug seems to have been fixed now (KDE 4.12.2) but the
author of the software is still not happy with it and wants me to run some
tests, which I will when I can build kdelibs with debugfull and run it properly.

So I think the July 2011 problem has gone away some time in the last 3
years and does not need to be mentioned on the problems wiki.
