I just remembered this and thought it was worth commenting on. Surely
everything is worth pushing to upstream as an option so they can just
pass a CMake/configure parameter and have it use their chosen
settings? The problem is that otherwise each packaging system ends up
often duplicating work or making bad patches that aren't checked for
years (see the OpenSSL issues in Debian).
