Indeed, software engineers as well as computer scientists, though these
categories do not always match exactly since different countries call these
differently.

One of the advantages of a large community like KDE is that experts of other
domains can quickly get help from software experts from various special
fields.

Good examples are often scientific or educational applications, where the
domain expert is often the initiator and who can then draw from the expertise
of the software engineers in the community.

An approach that is usually only available to big companies or large research
institutions, who can hire people from different fields.

These team-ups are prototypical win-win situations since it allows the
application domain expert to get engineering problems solved and allows the
engineers to work on something other than software for themselves or for other
engineers.

The former get programs that are useful for their field of work/interest, the
latter get expertise with a wide variety of needs.
For both sides obviously also very gratifying :-)

Cheers,
Kevin
