Note that distros sometimes change the locations from the default. I
don't believe /usr/share/kde-settings is standard, for instance, so I'm
guessing that's a distro-specific modification of the more standard
/usr/share/config and /usr/share/apps locations, which are the normal
system variants of ~/.kde/share/config and apps.
Additionally, it's worth noting that kde-5/frameworks changes some of the
former kde-specific locations to XDG-compliant locations (thus making
that section of some interest as well if you're planning on deploying kde5
in the reasonable future). They did a bit of that in kde4, but not a lot
as the XDG specs were hammered out after kde4 was well underway, and in
general once the locations were set for kde4, they had to be maintained
thru the entire kde4 series for compatibility reasons. So the switch to
kde5 is the first opportunity kde has really had to come into better xdg
compliance, and they're taking it. =:^)
