This happened to me a few times with stock KDE as shipped with Slackware
13.37 (KDE 4.5.5). Some other KDE instabilities also. So I was on the
point of dropping KDE for XFCE when I read somewhere about AlienBob's
KDE packages for Slackware (I think he maintains both a KDE 4.6.5 and a
4.8.0 branch currently - see
http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/alien-kde/). I installed the less
bleeding-edge KDE 4.6.5 and have had rock-solid KDE under Slackware
13.37 ever since.
