It may have nothing to do with KDE. Did you try logging into another DTE? 
Regardless, if /etc/X11/xorg.conf exists, try renaming it to something else, 
then restart KDM (1:log in as root on a tty; 2a: init3, init 5, or 2b: rcxdm 
restart) and log into KDE.
