[kde-linux] Broken kppp after previously working! Please help!

Ppp0 seems to be broken on one of my two dial-up computers. Neither kppp 
nor qinternet works on the broken box. Both work on the good box. Each 
box has two dial-up modems.

A month or two ago both modems on the broken box worked. Both broken box 
modems query on kppp, and both modems connect with the XP dual boot on 
the broken box.

Googling around, I think I need to reload the app that creates the ppp0 
instance. That app may not be a kde app, but I thought I would try here 
first.

One thing seemingly unrelated is that I changed the monitor on the bad 
box. To fix the new display I followed the excellent directions from 
this site to create the virtual terminal and run sax2.

Any relevant suggestions on this problem will be appreciated. My system 
is i586 openSuse 11.2 with Kde 4.3.1. I have some comparative 
information like the following.
