Controlled via 
/etc/akonadi/mysql-global.conf
on my system, which defaults to creating a db of size ~128-140mb in size.

For example, on fedora, we currently tweak this to less astronomical amount 
via setting
innodb_log_file_size=8M
The db ends up being approx *2 this amount in practice.
