[kde-linux] [kde4-trunk] device notifier not working

hi,

i've been experiencing a problem with the device notifier plasma
widget for about 10 days. the problem is that it cannot handle any
command. it shows the hw attached but i have to start dolphin to
manage them (it cannot mount or unmount the external hw anymore). i
tried looking into the started services and noticed that the solid
server for the user interface is not started. if this might be the
problem how do i start it?
i'm on the kde4 trunk version on gentoo amd64.
