[kde-linux] Disabling effects for remote X-displays

Hi,

My problem with KDE4 is that if I enable the nice display effects for my setup 
everything works fine when on a local X-display, but when using my laptop 
over WiFi and remote X-window it is terribly slow. Disabling the niceties 
makes is usable but not as fast and nice as in KDE3.

Is there a way (ENVIRONMENT var or similar) to disable the heavy stuff for a 
remote display?
