[kde-linux] slow open office database

Anyone any suggestions as to why database searching in Openoffice (v.
2.1, 2.2 & 2.3) seems so slow - I am running a business with five
different PC's all using Linux mostly Ubuntu and everything is great
spreadsheets word processor diaries etc but the field search in Base is
so slooooow compared to Access that it's causing real headaches -
machines range from Pentium D 2.3 Ghz to Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz and all have
over 2GB RAM and fast IDE drives 

The staff aren't able to use SQL and need some sort of GUI front end
