[kde-linux] k3b won't verify data

One thought, Bill.  Try running k3b-setup as root.  Try the various options 
for setting read and write drives.  If you mainly want CD-writing, and the 
Lite-On is not happy, it may be worth setting it up that way and changing it 
back only when you want to write a DVD.

Having said that, my old box which is due for a rebuild has an ancient 
DVD-reader - JM-something-or-other - and a Lite-ON DVD Writer.  For the last 
3 years or so k3b has been using that perfectly happily.  Of course it will 
not be the same model as yours, being older, but it does suggest that Lite-On 
keep reasonably well to standards.
