Yes, it appears that KView does use imlib.  I did some rebuilding and it
didn't help.  I note that KuickShow also uses imlib and it will display
JPEG files with no problems.

So, now I am more puzzled.

I hope that this isn't another issue with old libraries.  GNOME stopped 
maintaining imlib with version 1.9.15 released 24-Sep-2004 as GNOME no 
longer uses it for new releases.

Enlightenment came out with a new version Imlib2 which is not binary 
compatible.

So, it appears that we should have either adopted imlib or switched to 
Imlib2.
