[kde-linux] Accident loses sound

Sorry to report that I had this problem for at least six months 
(although I am less sure than you about what caused it in the first 
place). The symptom was - sound working generally (kaffeine, amorak etc 
all playing CDs, MP3s etc), but no system notifications working. Lots of 
suggestions posted in response to a help request, but nothing helped. 
Included messing about with knotifyrc settings in .kde/share/config. I 
decided I could live without system notifications and did so until I 
installed a new KDE when everything worked again. I know it should be 
possible to track down what has gone wrong, but it defeated me in the 
end. Sorry to be unable to offer much real help - just confirmation that 
it can go wrong and is difficult to put right.
