Of course, it will only work if the protocol allows it. With MSN Messenger contacts it's possible, don't know about other protocols.

Now that Kopete is updated to 3.5.5.2 and works with AIM again, I
checked it. I have no trace of any Chat -> Invite option. There is no
menu bar in my chat windows. None of the icons shown indicate anything
like "Chat" - Just Save, Print, Cut, Copy, Paste, Smileys, Enable Rich
Tech, Check Spelling. The Formatting toolbar shows nothing like that. I
also don't see a Chat -> Invite option for Yahoo IM, either, although it
adds toolbar buttons about web cams, sending files, buzzing contacts,
and user info. So apparently Kopete doesn't support AIM chat rooms.

During the summer, my daughter and I were trying to get it to work, so
my wife could chat with us together, but Kopete apparently never
received chat invitations that my daughter initiated (with her Windows
AIM chat client). GAIM, on the other hand, worked just fine. So it must
be yet another difference between the Kopete and GAIM implementations of
the AIM protocol ...
