Ok, I see that on the menu but its grey'ed out.
I did hunt around through all the .directory files on my system and copied parts of each to make the folders do what I wanted to manually.

Ok, feature request filing time for that one.  I did find this http://developer.kde.org/documentation/tutorials/kfile-plugin/t1.html which talks about metadata support, but I don't know if that changes the colums or just the properties dialog.
