[kde-linux] KDE 3.5.0 + dbus/hal trouble

Hi,
I've been trying to get KDE 3.5.0 running with DBUS/hal for a few days
now, with no success. KDE is compiled with dbus support, there is an
option checked in the configuration, but media:/ shows only some network
shares, no hardware, nevermind the hotplug notification.
Could anyone give me a clue where to look for the source of the problem?
DBUS and hal are kind of poorly documented and I really didn't find
anything relevant on Google.
Here's my system configuration:
KDE 3.5.0 is entirely from sources.
[tomee at aereo ~]$ uname -a
Linux aereo.cpi.pl 2.6.11-10mdkcustom #7 Wed Feb 22 17:14:00 CET 2006 i686
unknown unknown GNU/Linux
[tomee at aereo ~]$ rpm -q dbus
dbus-0.60-2mdk
[tomee at aereo ~]$ rpm -q hal
hal-0.5.6-1
DBUS and hal seem to be running OK:
[tomee at aereo ~]$ ps aux | grep dbus
message 6618 0.0 0.2 2156 1056 ? Ss 09:31 0:00 dbus-daemon
--system
tomee 7727 0.0 0.1 2592 740 ? S 09:32 0:00 dbus-launch
--exit-with-session /usr/bin/startkde
tomee 7728 0.0 0.1 2028 728 ? Ss 09:32 0:00 dbus-daemon
--fork --print-pid 8 --print-address 6 --session
tomee 25811 0.0 0.1 1916 644 pts/1 R+ 10:50 0:00 grep dbus
[tomee at aereo ~]$ ps aux | grep hal
root 7356 0.0 0.3 3624 2052 ? Ss 09:32 0:00 hald
--retain-privileges
root 7361 0.0 0.1 1856 624 ? S 09:32 0:00 hald-addon-acpi
tomee 25835 0.0 0.1 1916 648 pts/1 S+ 10:50 0:00 grep hal
That's the output of dbus-monitor from KDE terminal. I don't understand it:
[tomee at aereo ~]$ dbus-monitor --session
signal sender=org.freedesktop.DBus -> dest=:1.0
interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=NameAcquired
string ":1.0"
method call sender=:1.0 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus
interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=AddMatch
string "type='method_call'"
method call sender=:1.0 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus
interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=AddMatch
string "type='method_return'"
method call sender=:1.0 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus
interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=AddMatch
string "type='error'"
Thanks in advance!
