[kde-linux] sftp question

I'm currently trying to connect to my isp via some sort of secure ftp - I know
there is sftp kioslave for that, but it doesn't work for me:

sftp://mydomain.de:21

results in:

Beim Laden von sftp://mydomain.de:21 ist folgender Fehler aufgetreten:
Unbekannter Fehler
Fehler bei der Kommunikation mit SSH

however, there is a (german) howto for secure ftp on my isp's website:
http://www.hosteurope.de/faq/index.php?cpid=10995
which (of course :) is for a windoze ftp client.
maybe someone here can enlighten me, whether the mentioned 'FTP over SSL' is
something different than what the kde sftp:// kioslave does ?
