Confirming our off-list conversations, I have had much the same problems.  It 
also seems that there are almost identical problems with windows media video 
files.  After much searching I found that one association did not have 
kmplayer at the top of the embedded player list, but when I moved it to the 
top and tried again Konqueror crashed as soon as I hit the icon to start the 
download.
