I have a problem making plugins work in konqueror. For example, to play the
RealAudio stream type x-pn-realaudio-plugin contained in
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radio4_aod.shtml?radio4/makinghistory .
If I open this in firefox, one of the following happens:
1 The stream plays in RealPlayer 10 plugin, nphelix.so, or
2. If mozplugger is installed, the stream plays in RealPlayer 10 as a
standalone application (depending on what app is configured in
mozpluggerrc), or
3. If mozplugger is installed but x-pn-realaudio-plugin is commented-out in
mozpluggerrc, the stream plays in RealPlayer 10 plugin, nphelix.so.
That is just what I expect.
However, in konqueror:
1. If the top entry in the embedded tag of x-pn-realaudio-plugin in
konqueror/file associations if kaffeine (part), the stream plays in
embedded kaffeine, but konqueror crashes. (I assume this is a kaffeine
bug.)
2. If the top entry in the embedded tag of x-pn-realaudio-plugin is
"Netscape plugin viewer", without mozplugger installed, the stream does not
play.
3. Again, if the top entry in the embedded tag of x-pn-realaudio-plugin is
"Netscape plugin viewer", and mozplugger is installed, RealPlayer is not
launched as a separate app and the stream does not play.
Konfigure konqueror/plugins shows both nphelix and mozplugger as available.
(In Mandrake 10.0 this same stream launches RealPlayer 8 via mozplugger.)
It appears then that neither nphelix nor mozplugger plugins are working in
konqueror. I thought initially that all plugin handling was probably
broken, but flash plays, eg http://www.mrandmrssmithmovie.com/# and click
on English. (Picked that URL from this list a few days ago. A smaller flash
animation would be a more convenient test!)
Does any of this ring any bells with anyone? Is it a known problem, is
there a fix?
Thanks
John
